The Brampton Urban Design Awards (the “BUDAs”) is a biennial awards program aimed at recognizing and celebrating outstanding urban design in the City of Brampton. This program highlights the innovative, creative, sustainable and inclusive contributions made by a range of professionals and design students to enhance urban environments. In 2023, the awards program was focused on socio-economic themes, including Active Design, Aging Population, Sustainability, Accessibility, Safety, Equity, and Health and Wellbeing, all aligned with the overarching theme of 'Inclusivity – By Design'.

We’re thrilled to announce that Shoppers World Brampton has been honoured with a BUDA in the “Healthy by Design” category. This award not only recognizes the outstanding efforts of the team on this project but also underscores our dedication to inclusive design.

The transformation of Shoppers World Brampton represents a forward-looking  vision for the future, where a formerly conventional shopping centre will evolve into a vibrant and sustainable neighbourhood. The project aims to establish a pedestrian-friendly, transit-oriented community featuring residential towers, community space, with an enhanced focus on retail spaces. Through this reinvention, Shoppers World showcases its potential as a catalyst for urban revitalization, seamlessly integrating medium- and high-density buildings with top-notch amenities within a network of open spaces.

Congratulations to everyone involved, including our forward-thinking client, RioCan, and contributing architects, SvN. Special recognition goes to our project team members: Anna Madeira, Hector Tuminan, Harim Labuschagne, for their commitment and creative vision.

If you meet the team in person or online, please consider offering your congratulations :)
