Susan brings a lifelong passion for creative problem solving to her pursuit of architecture that can be used and enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age or ability.
As Managing Principal from 2008 to 2017, Susan was responsible for overall management of the Studio, practice issues and leadership of the administrative, financial and technical teams, leading to the firm being recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed firms in 2015. As the firm's resident expert in universal and inclusive design, she has been the project architect for major institutional projects, applying her expertise in accessibility to create independent-living environments for seniors and persons with disabilities. She also co-founded AccessAbility Advantage, formerly a joint venture that continues to be operated under March of Dimes Canada, which helps businesses comply with a wide range of accessibility standards.
Susan has spoken and written extensively on issues related to universal and accessible design, continues to volunteer on a number of committees and boards, and has contributed to leading international symposiums from Oslo to Boston. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Carleton University and pursued additional studies at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, England. In 2014, Susan was awarded the G. Randy Roberts Service award by the Ontario Association of Architects for her contributions and commitment to the profession and community.
After three decades with the Studio, Susan continues to provide her support and expertise to the Studio in her retirement.
